Housing Unit Mapping And Survey Field Staff Positions

 

The Dakota Housing Needs Assessment Pilot Project (“Pilot Project”)is a joint venture of Oglala Sioux (Lakota) Housing, Sicangu Wicoti Awanyakapi (SWA) Corporation (Rosebud), Cheyenne River Housing Authority, Turtle Mountain Housing Authority and Lower Brule Housing Authority. The Pilot Project will
launch its Housing Unit Mapping field operation and the Household Survey field operation in January 2013. Village Earth, a nonprofit organization based in Fort Collins, Colorado, will manage the field operations for this Project.

For the Housing Unit Mapping Operation, field staff members will be required to accurately and professionally update housing unit location and classification information within the Oglala Sioux Tribe’s housing formula/service area. These activities will be completed as part of a 3 to 4 week field operation, including a 2-3 day paid training session, in which field staff will travel along assigned routes and use GPS devices to collect prescribed information concerning each of the structures encountered along these routes. Recruiting for these positions is now underway.

For the Household Survey Operation, field staff members will be required to accurately and professionally complete brief door-to-door household surveys within the Tribe’s housing formula/service area for the purpose of collecting housing needs-related data. These activities will be completed as part of a 6-week field operation, including a 2-3 day paid training session, in which field staff will complete surveys at specified housing units within prescribed assignment areas and pursuant to specific survey procedures and protocols. Recruiting for these positions is now underway and will conclude the week of December 21st, 2012. Additional field staff may be recruited until early April 2013.

Term of Employment (subject to change):

  • Housing Unit Mapping Operation: January 3-January 31
  • Household Survey Operation: February 1st-April 19

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have valid state driver license andown or have access to a vehicle for use during project
  • Must pass criminal background check

Preferred Experience (not required):

  • Previous use of GPS device for data collection
  • Prior service with the U.S. Census Bureau or other survey/data collection operation
