Adopt a Buffalo Campaign

Adopt-A-Buffalo Campaign

Help return the legacy of the Buffalo to the Ogalal Lakota People while supporting self-sufficiency and sustainable development!

Before the great north american buffalo herds were nearly hunted to extinction 100 years ago, they were an integral part of the Lakota way of life. Not only did they provide a steady source meat, clothing, shelter, and tools, they also occupied a important position in the Lakota religion.

"The buffalo was the primary source of survival, both physical and spiritual. The buffalo provided food, clothing, shelter, a purpose to their existence and a sacred object of reverence." - Powers 1986

For a small donation you can give the gift of life and culture to a Lakota family. This gift helps Lakota families achieve their vision for the future - utilizing their remaining land-base.

Individuals, families, churches, classrooms, can purchase one buffalo for $500 - all at once or in installments. To acknowledge your gift you will receive a picture and certificate with the Lakota name of your buffalo.
