David received his M.A. in Cultural Anthropology from Colorado State University. He has worked with Village Earth since 1998. In addition to his role as Executive Director, David also serves as the program director for the Lakota Lands Recovery Project on the Pine Ridge Reservation. He teaches online courses through the Village Earth/Colorado State University online certificate program in Community-Based Development. These courses include Approaches to Community Development, Community Mobilization and Organization, Technology and Community-Based Development and Community-Based Mapping. David has extensive hands-one experience working on agriculture, land tenure and fractionation issues on American Indian Reservations. He has also trained and consulted for projects in Azerbaijan, Armenia, India, Peru, and Ecuador. He has also been an instrumental part of several research projects with CSU’s Department of Anthropology including a 6 year longitudinal study of the informal economy on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota funded by the National Science Foundation, a survey of farmers and ranchers participating in the National Conservation Reserve Program conducted by CSU’s Natural Resource Ecology Lab and funded by the USDA, and successfully challenged the federal censuses the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservations increasing their funding for housing by over $1,700,000 each year. David also handles promotion and sales of the Appropriate Technology Library.
